The Ajuda area is much in demand as a residential area due to its fabulous location on the western extreme of Funchal (at the end of Estrada Monumental), and its close proximity to the city center as well as the sea. Many of the city's five star hotels are in that area. The sea-front promenade that extends across from the Lido to Praia Formosa, as well as the new 'Forum Madeira' shopping complex, further add to the convenience factor of this location. Local shopping and services are all available in abundance, including supermarkets, restaurants, and all other commodities. Public transport and other services are excellent.
